Jazz-Up Your Jacket

It’s what you grab last before you head out the door, but it should be the first thing on your mind now that Spring is fast approaching: Do you have the jacket to get through those in-between days, with their chilly mornings and sunny afternoons? We’re big on comfort and we’re big on quality fabrics, but without style there’s no use for either of those. Here’s four looks to show you how you can do jackets right; today, tomorrow, next month and next year.

TRUE BLUE

Here’s the deal; a well-cut overshirt is hard to beat. Why? Well, not only is it the perfect jacket to wear in-between seasons (which honestly is most of the year over here anyway), it can also be worn as an extra layer underneath your winter coat when the cold hits. Exactly, it’s function and style caught doing a high five. What really sets this Garow overshirt apart is its bold Klein blue color and its incredibly soft corduroy fabric. Pair it with whatever suits your mood and temperatures outside; shirts (button-up or even collarless), a light knit sweater or just a t-shirt – it’s all good. Finish the look with comfy chinos and sneakers.

COOL CLASSICS

Our Jive jacket is like grandma’s apple pie. It may seem traditional and old fashioned, but goddamn, that sweet old lady used all the best ingredients she could muster and got those flavors just right. Plus, she made that pie with love, so you simply can’t get enough. Inspired by vintage golf jackets, this roomy, timeless beauty fits like a glove and was made from a top-notch double layered cotton fabric that happens to be water repellent. Note the two-way zipper and the magnetic pockets too! If you ask us, this is the perfect basic. Bring it to life with the right accessories and add some color like we did with our red vintage-style Gibbs shirt.

DO AS THE SUNRISE DOES

We’re men. We love blue and grey. Maybe some olive green or black. But occasionally, it pays to not play it safe. So, prepare yourself to venture outside of your comfort zone… by trying a flashy orange overshirt for example. Once again, it’ll easily serve as a jacket during those inter-seasonal months and, after those, it can be an eye-catching extra layer in your December wardrobe. For those unafraid, let us tell you that orange and camouflage go together like peanut butter and jelly. For those that would rather keep the rest of their look low-key, go for a white t-shirt and navy pants, or the other way around. When in doubt, remember Frank Sinatra’s words: “Orange is the happiest color”.

LOOK 4
MIXING PATTERNS

It may seem little risky at first, but mixing patterns usually works out just fine. Obviously, with a subtly checked navy blue overshirt like this one, the obvious choice will be a heather grey or classic white t-shirt and – rest assured – there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you’re OK with upping your style game a little more, mix and match with a striped tee or go for a shirt with a lively print. Remember, it’s Spring and Summer will eventually be there too, so a pop of color will get you in the right mood. Tone things down a little with your choice of pants, because - as you can see here – a pair of sand colored or beige chinos will get the job done.
