4 Ways to Take On a Boyish Style

You know how we’re always going on about trying uncommon combinations, while mixing and matching as you please? Well, very few people do it as well as Virginie does. She’s an expert at creating unique looks, never afraid to color outside the lines, with an energy that is seemingly endless. Next to that, Virginie is the heart and soul of our Rue de Saintonge store in Paris. So, we let her do what she does best and she put together 4 looks that are boyish, stylish and extremely wearable.

LOOK 1
SUIT YOURSELF

When you spend much of your time running from left to right to take care of business (this will sound very familiar to every mom out there), a look that can combine comfort and cool is always a winner. Taking a classic men’s suit and twisting it in a very sporty direction, Virginie went for the logical combination of our discreetly checked, loose fitting Vincent pants and slightly cropped Stoemp blazer. Both come in the same lightweight cotton blend fabric, which is super easy to move around in. Keeping it casual, she chose the comfort and the flash of color of the zip up Vafa sweatshirt, with a simple cotton tee underneath to wrap things up. Wear with the right pair of sneakers and voilà, you’re there.

STEAL YOUR BOYFRIEND’S SHIRT

We love how cleverly a few boyish elements were integrated in this look that otherwise radiates the kind of atypical femininity Bellerose is known for. Starting with an always stylish pair of black cigarette pants (with a comfy elastic waistband) and a delicate milky white knit sweater, Virginie then layered up with a classy men’s overshirt – straight hems, checks, premium fabric, regular fit – and a roomy, oversized coat in neutral chocolate brown.

Maintaining the balance between the best of both wardrobes, it’s a pair of Dr. Martens boots and a timeless leather handbag that bring this look home.

LOOK 3
JOIN THE ARMY

It’s hard to think of contemporary fashion without chino pants.

Originally part of 19th century American army outfits, they’ve become a staple in every casual wardrobe, for both men and women. Our high-rise, straight legged Pasop chinos fit perfectly in that tradition. What’s more, they perfectly fit the vibe of this rugged look in earth tones, giving Virginie the possibility to combine ‘em with her new favorite men’s sweatshirt: a versatile half-zip hoodie with a no frills, easy fit. The ideal jacket to pair with these boyish basics is the Pixcer jacket in a natural off white: an already iconic style, made from a spectacular Italian cotton.

The bag in this look is our own upcycled shopper, made from leftover fabrics, only available in-store.

LOOK 4
AN EVENING OUT IN PARIS

Even a look that is graceful and feminine can be finished flawlessly with a classic navy-blue men’s blazer, as proven here. Virginie wears hers over a double dose of ruffles: the timeless grace of the white Melissa shirt by True NYC, tucked into our striped and super comfy high-waist Lawal pants. Perfectly suited for a night on the town, drinks with friends or dinner in your favorite restaurant, the silhouette is completed by the leather Sidney bag-turned-clutch and a pair of black boots with heels, because hey, we’re in Paris after all.

We’ll leave you with a few pointers on how to get that boyish look right :

• Don’t overdo it. Look for that one piece that’ll elevate your outfit.

• Keep your accessories very feminine, it’s all about balance.

• Sportswear works: hoodies, joggers, sneakers.

• Go for contrasts. Think oversized Oxford shirts over a pair of black skinnies, or slim fitting tops tucked into worn out boyfriend jeans.

• Be confident and have fun.
